Ethical Framework

All counselling and psychotherapy practice is conducted in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.

The Framework sets out the values, principles and standards that underpin ethical practice. These include a commitment to working within competence, maintaining appropriate boundaries, protecting client confidentiality and engaging in regular supervision and professional development.

Joanna is a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. BACP membership is verifiable through the BACP register.

What confidentiality means in practice

Everything shared in sessions is confidential. Notes are held securely and are not shared with third parties without your knowledge and consent, except in the limited circumstances described below.

The limits of confidentiality

Confidentiality has legal and ethical limits. These are explained clearly at the start of any working relationship. They include situations where there is a serious risk of harm to you or to others, or where disclosure is required by law.

Data and GDPR

All personal data is held in line with the UK General Data Protection Regulation. A full privacy policy is available on request and will be provided at the start of any working relationship.

Supervision and confidentiality

Client work is discussed in clinical supervision. This is a professional and ethical requirement. All supervision is confidential. Identifying details are not shared.
